For the longest time, mankind has relied on the production of energy through the utilization of fossil fuels. However, in during the same time frame, there have also been many developments in the alternative energy fields. Back in the 1930’s the development of multiple hydro-powered dams sprung up all across the United States as well as other countries. These are of course a form of alternative energy and have continuously provide the powering needs of the general public for more than a half of a century.
Alternative energy has always been around, and to be completely honest, these forms were here long before the use of fossil fuels. The main reason the fossil fuels became more popular was due to ease of production as well as lowered costs. Another alternative energy concept that is growing in popularity is that of the harnessing of the sun’s power. Solar power comes in two forms including that solar thermal as well as photovoltaic. The differences between the two are often made complicated, but it is actually quite simple. The rays of the sun comes in many different frequencies, some of these can be used in the form of light in the photovoltaic cells. On the other hand, some of these are in the form of heat such as that of Ultra Violet rays, these can be used in a solar thermal production.
